Mamono Sweeper is a free puzzle-roguelike Minesweeper variant that combines the random generation and deduction-based gameplay of minesweeper with (heavily accelerated) turn-based combat and a leveling system reminiscent of old role-playing games, making it the perfect roguelike for your coffee breaks. Mines are replaced with Monsters with different levels, and cells display the sum of the monster-levels in adjacent squares. You start at level 1, meaning you can only kill level 1 Monsters without taking damage. Each monster gives you experience according to its level, allowing you to level up and slay stronger foes. Kill all monsters to win! There are many difficulty modes too chose from, which adds variety to the gameplay.

2. Cavern Sweeper

Cavern Sweeper makes you evade monsters instead of mines. There are 4 types of monsters, but you can should with less types to get used to it. The monsters have different patterns and levels, the pattern dictates the tiles the monster affects and the level dictates by how much it affects the tile. You can check out the patterns in the Bestiary. This game is super interesting because in most Minesweeper versions you think in terms of “the numbers are affecting the squares around them” but in this game you have to think in terms of “the monsters are affecting the numbers around them” which makes you much more careful, especially when messing with serpents and ghosts.

3. Minesveeper Advent Calender

Minesveeper Advent Calender offers more than 50 different variants of the base game. Some of them are small changes like board size, but others turn the game completely upside-down with crazy tiles (square root number hints?!) and incredibly creative rules you will have to get used to. It’s experimental nature and expansive content make this an amazing brain-workout timesink.
